How technology changed the Education system in Egypt

Technology plays a huge role in the education system now. There are many advantages that the education system in Egypt can get from technology.

In this world of ours, everything is technology-driven, from communication, production, healthcare, learning, and more. Existing jobs are now easier to perform, thanks to technological developments that have opened doors for new jobs and created equal educational opportunities for all.

Students are now equipped with powerful technological skills. Schools are currently rushing toward Virtual Reality, which is said to be the future of the education system, in which students will be able to engage in a visual learning environment and gain a memorable learning experience.

Educational and Technology (Ed-Tech)

Our world has seen significant technological developments that have changed the nature of learning globally over the last few decades, and we don't just mean the production of calculators and smart boards. We are talking about major ed-tech advancements like educational phone apps and remote learning, which have greatly increased access to education. Anyone, not just students, can now access the world’s knowledge. Research has now become a daily habit for nearly everyone who owns a computer or other internet-connected device.

Teaching is a valuable job. Even with the existence of Artificial Intelligence and its impact on education, AI is designed to assist teachers and take some of the workloads off their shoulders, not to replace them. Tasks like grading exams or homework, lesson planning, or class management that used to take time and effort to be done are now completed in seconds by AI, freeing up a lot of time for teachers to move around the classroom and interact with students.

Egypt’s education in the technical/digital age

Egypt has a long history of educational initiatives, therefore, Egypt’s education system is known to be the largest in the Middle East.

Egypt's online learning platforms have benefited from technological advancements. Eyouth, Almentor, and Egypt FWD have significantly expanded online educational resources, offering a wide range of courses in areas such as languages, information technology, digital marketing, and so on.

Egypt's ministry of education has focused its efforts on gradually digitalizing the education system in Egypt in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the on-off presence of physical classrooms. Here's how it's done:

E-Learning

Tablets have been a part of the education system in Egypt for the past two years, allowing students to get an e-book version of their courses and curriculums. However, the ministry faced challenges while implementing this method because some students had trouble using tablets while others used them immorally.

Technology-based tests

High school exams now come in two forms; bubble answer sheets or tablets. Both are designed to help correct the exams electronically without human involvement. Students must return the tablets before starting college. Unfortunately, the initial use of the tablet in the exam system experienced technical malfunctions, and many students failed.

Cheating-free exams

The ministry adopted a cheating-free exam strategy; installing surveillance cameras inside some exam committees and classrooms to ensure that no student-to-teacher or teacher-to-student violations occurred.

Technology has been redesigning the educational world for years, changing the roles of teachers and learners. Egypt has been shifting toward more modernized teaching conditions in recent years. It is too early to say whether this is the best education system Egypt has ever seen. However, there is no denying that these changes have made the overall learning process simpler.
